When a f1 individual is being crossed with any one of the parent cells, that is known as back cross.

In back cross, the f1 individuals , that is those individuals which are obtained from the crossing of parent's gametes , are crossed with anyone of the parents.

This is generally done to produce offsprings which are genetically related or has very close relation with those of the parent gametes.

This is mainly done during animal breeding or during some kind of experimentation, like production of a knockout mice.
