QUESTION:

50 students of class X planned a visit to an old age home and to spend the whole day with its inmates. Each one prepared a cylindrical flower vase using cardboard to gift the inmates. The radius of cylinder is 4.2 cm and the height is 11.2 cm.

What is the amount spent for purchasing the cardboard at the rate of Rs. 20 per 100 m²?

SOLUTION:

Given:

Radius of base of each cylindrical vase(r)= 4.2 cm

Height of each cylindrical vase(h) = 11.2 cm

Area of cardboard needed for each vase = CSA of cylinder + Area of base

Area of cardboard needed for each vase = 2πrh + πr²

Area of cardboard needed for each vase = 2×22/7×4.2×11.2 + 22/7×(4.2)²

Area of cardboard needed for each vase = 295.68 + 55.44 = 351.12 cm²

Number of students = 50. (GIVEN)

Total amount of cardboard needed = 50 × 351.12 = 17556 cm²

Rate of purchasing the cardboard= ₹ 20/100 cm².

cost of 17556 cm² of cardboard = ₹ 17556× 20/100 = ₹ 3511.20
