A cubic solid is made of two elements P and Q. Atoms of Q are at the comers of the cube and P at the body-centre. What is the formula of the compound? What are the coordination numbers of P and Q?

As the atoms present in Q are in the corners so the total number of atoms present in Q will be 8*1/8=1.

As the atoms present in P are in the body centre so the total number of atoms present in P will be  1.

rSo, the ratio of a number of P atoms to the number of Q atoms, P: Q = 1:1. So the formula will be PQ.

The coordination number of both of them will be 8.
