A cup in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a cylinder the height of the cylindrical portion is 8 cm and the total height of the cup is 11.5 cm. Find the total surface area of the cup

r=11.5-8=3.5cm

cylindrical portion h=8cm

r=3.5=7/2

TSA of cup =CSA of hemisphere +CSA of cylindrical portion

2πr2+2πrh=2πr(r+h)

=2×22/7×7/2(7/2+8)

TSA of cup =253 sqcm
