A current of 3.7A is passed for 6 hrs between Ni electrodes in 0.5L of 2M solution of Ni(NO3)2. What will be the molarity of solution at the end of electrolysis ?

Explanation:

The electrolysis of Ni(NO3)2 in presence of Ni electrode is given as below.

  • At anode: Ni→Ni2+ + 2e
  • At cathode: Ni2+  + 2e → Ni

Equation of Ni2+ formed = Equation of Ni2+ lost

Hence there will be no change in concentration of Ni(NO3)2 solution during electrolysis . therefore the molarity will remain same that is 2M.

Hence the molarity of the solution at the end of electrolysis will remain same.
