a cyclist riding along a level road does not come to rest immediately after he stops pedalling ?why?

Because when there is no acceleration, an object moves at a steady speed, it takes for the object to stop.

There are two sets of reason
1) Newton's first law of motion
2) It will stop totally when the external force(friction) will totally act on it...
