A cyclist travels 5 km in the east direction. Then he travels 12 km in the sounth direction. What is the magnitude of displacement of cyclist ?
(A) 17 km
(B) 13 km
(C) 7 km
(D) zero

displacement is the shortest distance between two points.
considering Cartesian system of coordinates..
5 km east means 5 km along +ve x axis
==> 5i cap
12 km south meaning -12j cap

shortest distance would be underroot of [ (5^2) +( -12^2) ]
which on solving comes 13 km
