A cylinder and cone have bases of equal radii and are of equal heights. Show that their volumes are in the ratio of 3:1.

& Height of cylinder = H

then Volume of Cylinder = π R² H

Now given that cylinder and cone have bases of equal radii and are of equal heights.

=> Radius of cone = Radius of cylinder = R

& Height of cone = Height of cylinder = H

Volume of the cone = (1/3) π R² H

Volume of Cylinder / Volume of Cone =  π R² H / ((1/3)π R² H)

= 1/ (1/3)

= 3

=> volumes are in the ratio of 3:1
