Let W 1 , w2 , w3 be weight of the body in air , water and liquid , respectively .

W3 = 16 N ; w2 = X

W1 = 40 N

Specific gravity of the liquid = 6

W1-w3 / W1 - w2 =6

40-16/40-x = 6'

X= 36 N . Thus , weight of the body in water is 36 N .
