A cylindrical hole is drilled through a rectangular metal prism. The hole is in the centre of the prism. The diameter of the hole is 40mm. The dimension of the prism are indicated on sketch as length is 80mm, width is 60mm and height is 80mm. Calculate the volume of metal in this hollowed figure.

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Volume of rectangular Prism = Length * Width * Height

= 80 * 60 * 80

= 384000 mm³

Volume of cylinder = πR²h

π = 3.14

R = Diameter/2 = 40/2 = 20 mm

h = height of  prism = 80 mm  ( may vary depending upon where cylindrical hole is made)

= (3.14)(20²)(80)

= 100480 mm³

Volume of portion holled down = 100480 mm³

Volume of metal in Remaining Prism = 384000 - 100480 = 283520 mm³
