Given : a cylindrical metallic pipe is 21 cm long

the difference between the outside and inside surface area is 44 cm²

the pipe is made up of 110 cm³ of metal

To find : the outer and inner diameter of the pipe

Solution:

inner diameter = 2r  cm  => inner radius = r cm

outer diameter = 2R  =>outer radius =R cm

Outer Surface area  =2πRh

Inner Surface area  =2πrh

2πRh  - 2πrh = 44

=> 2π (R - r) h = 44

h = 21

=> 2(22/7)  (R - r) 21 = 44

=> R - r = 1/3

Material used  =   πR²h  - πr²h

=  π(R + r)(R - r) h

= (22/7)  (R + r)(1/3) (21)  = 110

=> R + r = 5

R + r = 5

R - r = 1/3

=> 2R = 5 + 1/3

=> 2R = 16/3

2r = 14/3

Outer Diameter = 16/3 cm

Inner Diameter = 14/3 cm
