a cylindrical metallic pipe is 21 cm long the difference between the outside and inside surface area is 44 CM square if the pipe is made up of 110 cm cube of metal find the outer and inner diameter of the pipe
Answers
Given : a cylindrical metallic pipe is 21 cm long
the difference between the outside and inside surface area is 44 cm²
the pipe is made up of 110 cm³ of metal
To find : the outer and inner diameter of the pipe
Solution:
inner diameter = 2r cm => inner radius = r cm
outer diameter = 2R =>outer radius =R cm
Outer Surface area =2πRh
Inner Surface area =2πrh
2πRh - 2πrh = 44
=> 2π (R - r) h = 44
h = 21
=> 2(22/7) (R - r) 21 = 44
=> R - r = 1/3
Material used = πR²h - πr²h
= π(R + r)(R - r) h
= (22/7) (R + r)(1/3) (21) = 110
=> R + r = 5
R + r = 5
R - r = 1/3
=> 2R = 5 + 1/3
=> 2R = 16/3
2r = 14/3
Outer Diameter = 16/3 cm
Inner Diameter = 14/3 cm
