Given:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Width of the road roller is 1 m
  • Length/height of the cylinder is 100 cm
  • Inner radius of the cylinder is 27 cm
  • Thickness of the iron sheet is 9 cm

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

To find:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The weight of the roller if 1 c.c. of iron weighs 8 gm.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Solution:

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Width of the iron sheet = 1 m = 100 cm

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We know that,

Volume of cylinder = (πR^{2} h – π^{2} ) cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So, volume of the iron sheet used =

(πR^{2} h – π^{2} ) cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= π(R^{2} – r^{2} )h cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= [π(R + r)(R – r) h] cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= [3.14 × (36 + 27)(36 –27) × 100] cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= 314/100 × 63 × 9 × 100 cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= 178038 cm^{3}

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Hence, weight of the roller = 178038 × 8/1000 kgs

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

= 1424.304 kgs
