Step-by-step explanation:

Given

A cylindrical water tank of diameter 1.4 m and height 2.1 m is being fed by a pipe of diameter 3.5 cm through which water flows at the rate of 2 m   per second calculate the time it takes to fill the tank

  • Given diameter = 1.4 m
  • Radius = 1.4 / 2 = 0.7 m
  • Also h = 2.1 m
  • We know that volume of tank = π r^2 h
  •                                                = 22/7 x 0.7 x 0.7 x 2.1
  • Now dimensions of pipe will be
  • Diameter = 3.5 cm
  • Radius = D / 2
  •            = 3.5 / 2
  •            = 3.5 / 200 m
  • Height = 2 m
  • Now volume of water delivered in 1 sec will be π r^2 h
  •                                                                          = 22/7 x 3.5 / 200 x 3.5/200 x 2 m^3
  • When tank is filled let time be x.
  • Volume of tank = volume of water delivered in x sec
  • So 22/7 x 0.7 x 0.7 x 2.1 = 22/7 x 3.5 / 200 x 3.5/200 x 2 x x m^3
  • So x = 0.7 x 0.7 x 2.1 x 200 x 200 / 3.5 x 3.5 x 2
  •         = 1680 sec
  •        = 1680 / 60
  •         = 28 min
  • So the tank will be fully filled in 28 min.

Given diameter = 1.4 m

Radius = 1.4 / 2 = 0.7 m

Also h = 2.1 m

We know that volume of tank = π r^2 h

= 22/7 x 0.7 x 0.7 x2.1

Now dimensions of pipe will be

Diameter = 3.5 cm

Radius = D / 2

= 3.5 / 2

= 3.5 / 200 m

Height = 2 m

Now volume of water delivered in 1 sec will be π r^2 h = 22/7 x 3.5 / 200 x 3.5/200 x 2 m^3

When tank is filled let time be x.

Volume of tank = volume of water delivered in x sec

So 22/7 x 0.7 x 0.7 x 2.1 = 22/7 x 3.5 / 200 x 3.5/200 x 2 x x m^3

So x = 0.7 x 0.7 x 2.1 x 200 x 200 / 3.5 x 3.5 x 2

= 1680 sec

= 1680 / 60

= 28 min
