There is a loss and the loss is 6.66%.

Explanation:

The C.P. of 18 chairs = ₹(250×18)

                                   = ₹ 4500

The S.P. of 12 chairs = ₹(275×12)

                                   = ₹ 3300

After selling 12 chairs, the number of chairs left = (18-12)

                                                                                   = 6 chairs.

The S.P. of 6 chairs = ₹(150×6)

                                = ₹ 900

Hence, total S.P. = ₹ (3300+900)

                            = ₹ 4200

₹ 4500 > ₹ 4200

C.P. > S.P

Hence, there is loss.

Loss = ₹(4500-4200)

      = ₹ 300

∴ Loss% = (300/4500)×100

             = (300×100)/4500

             = 100/15

             = 20/3

             = 6.66%

So, the loss is 6.66%.
