(a)Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have the same atomic number but different mass number. And because their atomic numbers are same they have the same chemical but different physical properties.

Examples: Protium, Deuterium and Tritium are the isotopes of Hydrogen.

(b)If you mean X²⁺ then the element has lost two electrons to have a positive charge of 2+. Meaning that the original electron has 12 electrons and 12 protons. Therefore the mass number will be no. of protons + no. of neutrons = 12+14=26

But I think that there is something wrong with the question as element of atomic no. 12, Magnesium has mass number 24 and not 26.
