Anne Sullivan and Hellen lived together for forty-nine years. During these years Sullivan taught Hellen the way to talk, think and communicate. She took the help of the Tadoma method to teach Hellen. In this method, students touch people's lips when they speak in order to feel the vibrations of the words said by the people. This type of method was initially developed at the Perkins Institute for the Blind from where Anne Sullivan had taken her education as a teacher and a student.
