Given :  A die is rolled once.

To Find : the probability that the number on top will be:

(1) Greater than 3

ii )   Less than 1

(iii) A multiple of 2

(iv) A factor of 24

Solution:

S = { 1 , 2 ,3  ,4 , 5 , 6}

n(S) = 6

A =  Greater than 3

A = { 4 , 5 , 6 }

n(A) = 3

P(A) = n(A)/n(S)  = 3/6  = 1/2

probability that the number on top will be Greater than 3   = 1/2

B =  Less than 1

There is no number less than 1

b = { }

n(B) = 0

P(B)  = 0/6 = 0

probability that the number on top will be less than 1   = 0

C = A multiple of 2

C = { 2 ,4 , 6 }

n(C) = 3

P(C) = n(C)/n(S)  = 3/6  = 1/2

probability that the number on top will be multiple of 2   = 1/2

D = A factor of 24

D = { 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 6 }

n(D) = 5

P(D) = 5/6

probability that the number on top will be   factor of 24 = 5/6
