The probability of getting a number greater than 7 is 0

Given :

A die is thrown once

To find :

The probability of getting a number greater than 7

Solution :

Step 1 of 3 :

Find total number of possible outcomes

Here it is given that a die is thrown once

The possible outcomes are 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6

∴ Total number of possible outcomes = 6

Step 2 of 3 :

Find number of possible outcomes for the event

Let A be the event that of getting a number greater than 7

Since a die is thrown once

So outcomes will be one of 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6. A number greater than 7 can not occurs

So total number of possible outcomes for the event A = 0

Step 3 of 3 :

Find the probability of the event

The probability of getting a number greater than 7

= P(A)

\displaystyle \sf{  =  \frac{Number \:  of  \: favourable \:  cases \:  to \:  the \:  event \:  A }{Total \:  number  \: of \:  possible \:  outcomes }}

\displaystyle \sf   =  \frac{0}{6}

 = 0
