NaCl in its molten state electrolyzes to form Na+ and Cl- .
At cathode- Na+e---Na atom
At anode-Cl- -e---Cl atom
Cl+Cl-----Cl2
But in the aqueous state, Na reacts with water to form NaOH.
hope it helpzzz ☺️

Aqueous form of sodium chloride constitutes of different components such as water ,chloride and soduim ions .During electrolysis process , water moves to the cathode and is reduced to form hydrogen ions, in the anode chloride ions are oxidized to form pure chlorine gas. This process is helpful in manufacturing chlorine gas .
