A disturbance on the surface of water cannot move a paper boat from the shore towards the middle of the pond . Explain why?

Ans. The waves formed on the surface of water are transverse waves. The particle of water on the surface only make up and down motion. They cannot produce any force in the horizontal direction . Hence the boat can only make an up and down motion. It cannot make any motion in the horizontal direction.
