the function of the stomata is to exchange the gases.it takes in the Carbon dioxide and releases the oxygen in the atmosphere.
b) the opening and closing of guard cell leads to exchange of gases.
in the light the guard cells takes water through osmosis and become turgid and due to this turgidity the cells are tightened and thus opened. now the exchange of gases takes place.but during the night time the guard cell loose water and loose turgidity and thus they are closed.
