विद्यार्थी जीवन मानव जीवन का स्वर्णिम काल होता है । जीवन के इस पड़ाव पर वह जो भी सीखता, समझता है अथवा जिन नैतिक गुणों को अपनाता है वही उसके व्यक्तित्व व चरित्र निर्माण में प्रमुख भूमिका निभाते हैं ।
दूसरे शब्दों में, हम कह सकते हैं कि विद्यार्थी जीवन मानव जीवन की आधारशिला है । इस काल में सामान्यत: विद्यार्थी सांसारिक दायित्वों से मुक्त होता है फिर भी उसे अनेक दायित्वों व कर्तव्यों का निर्वाह करना पड़ता है ।
प्रत्येक विद्यार्थी का अपने माता-पिता के प्रति यह पुनीत कर्तव्य बनता है कि वह सदैव उनका सम्मान करे । सभी माता-पिता यही चाहते हैं कि उनका पुत्र बड़ा हौकर उनका नाम ऊँचा करे । वह बड़े होकर उत्तम स्वास्थ्य, धन व यश आदि की प्राप्ति करे ।
इसके लिए वे सदैव अनेक प्रकार के त्याग करते हैं । इन परिस्थितियों में विद्यार्थी का यह दायित्व बनता है कि वह पूरी लगन और परिश्रम सै अध्ययन करे तथा अच्छे अंक प्राप्त करें व अच्छा चरित्र धारण करने का प्रयत्न करे ।
