(a) Explain the pH change as the cause of tooth decay. How can tooth decay caused by pH change be prevented?
(b) Explain how pH change in the lake water can endanger the lives of aquatic animals (like fish). What can be done to lessen the danger to the lives of aquatic animals in the lake?
Answers
Answer:
we should stop throwing garbage and also we should stop littering the lake so it's pH can be maintained
Explanation:
(a) Tooth decay occurs due to certain foods that increase the acidity of the mouth. When the acidity increases, the pH level drops. When the pH is lower than 5.5 in the mouth, it becomes the optimal environment for bad bacteria to grow and cause decay in the tooth. Tooth decay can be prevented only by brushing with the paste that is basic in nature.
(b) There are chances of pH change in lake water when there is acid rain. Acid rain is caused when the pH of the rainwater comes to 5.6. So, when the rainwater enters the water bodies like the lake, the pH decreases, and it becomes acidic. When the acidity increases, it endangers the life of the aquatic animals. To safeguard these animals, calcium carbonate is added to the lake water. This will help in neutralizing the acid.
