(a) Structure of benzene on the basis of hybridization:-

  • The molecular formula of benzene is C₆H₆.
  • Each carbon atom is sp² hybridized.
  • During hybridization, three of the four available orbitals get utilized and every carbon atom is linked to two other carbon atoms.

(b) Ozonolysis

  • The process in which unsaturated bonds of alkenes, alkynes, or azo-compounds are cleaved in the presence of ozone is called ozonolysis.
  • The mechanism of ozonolysis was proposed by Criegee.
