(a) Explain with a reason whether the field will be stronger at the centre of current carrying loop

or near the circumference of the loop.

(b) Magnetic field lines are shown in the given diagram. A student makes a statement that

magnetic field at X is stronger than at Y. Justify this statement. Also redraw the diagram and

mark the direction of magnetic field lines.

(A)

We know, when magnetic field is directly proportional to magnetic lines of force . Means if magnetic lines of force are more concentrated at a point respect to another point then that point have more magnetic field with respect to the point which contains less concentrated magnetic lines of force.

In case of circular loop, magnetic lines of force are highly concentrated at centre as shown in figure. so, magnetic field is strong at centre . While in case of circumference , magnetic field is weaker than centre.

(B)

The relative strength of the magnetic field is shown by the degree of closeness of the field lines. The degree of closeness is more at 'X' than at 'Y'.

∴ The field is stronger at X where the field lines are crowded.
