A family of 4 adults and two children go to a restaurant

and orders six bowls of thukpa soup. If the soup is served

in hemispherical bowls each of radius 7cm, what is the

volume of soup in each bowl? The youngest child could

finish only half of her bowl and her brother could consume

3/4th
part of his soup. What is the total volume of soup

consumed by the family?

Answer:

volume of soup in each bowl=2156/3 cm^3

total volume of soup consumed by the family=3773 cm^3

Explanation:

volume of soup in each bowl= (2/3) *  π * r^3

= (2/3) * 22/7 * 7*7*7=2/3 * 22 * 7*7=2156/3 cm^3

volume of soup consumed by the youngest child= 1/2 of the total volume of soup in the bowl = 1/2 * 2156/3 cm^3                →(1)

volume of soup consumed by he elder brother= 3/4 of the total volume of soup in the bowl= 3/4* 2156/3 = 2156/4 = 539 cm^3                 →(2)

volume of soup consumed by the 4 adults = 4 *  the total volume of soup in the bowl = 4*2156/3 cm^3                      →(3)

⇒ total volume of soup consumed by the family = (1)+(2)+(3)

= [1/2*2156/3] +[539] + [4*2156/3]   cm^3

= [1078/3] + [539] + [8624/3]    cm^3

= [1078+ 1617 + 8624]/3

= 11319/3  cm^3

= 3773 cm^3
