Given :-
- A family’s ratio of savings to expenditure for last month was 2:13.
- This month, due to unforeseen expenditure, savings fell to 50% of the amount saved last month.
- Salary of last month was Rs.15,000.
- This month there was an increase of 15% in the salary.
To Find :-
- How much did the family spend this month ?
Solution :-
Given that,
→ Salary of Last Month was = Rs.15000
and,
→ Ratio of savings to expenditure for last month was = 2:13.
So,
→ Saving + Expenditure = Total salary.
→ 2 + 13 = 15000
→ 15 unit = 15000
→ 1 unit = 1000
Than,
→ Saving = 2 unit = Rs.2000 = Saving of Last Month .
→ Expenditure = 13 unit = Rs.13000 = Expenditure of Last Month.
__________
Now,
This month there was an increase of 15% in the salary.
So,
→ Salary of this month = Last month salary + 15% of Last month salary .
→ Salary of this month = 15000 + 15% of 15000
→ Salary of this month = 15000(100% + 15%)
→ Salary of this month = ( 15000 * 115 )/ 100
→ Salary of this month = 150 * 115
→ Salary of this month = Rs.17,250 .
Also,
This month, due to unforeseen expenditure, savings fell to 50% of the amount saved last month.
So,
→ Saving of this month = 50% of the amount saved last month.
→ Saving of this month = Half of the amount saved last month.
→ Saving of this month = (1/2) of 2000
→ Saving of this month = Rs.1000 .
Therefore,
→ Expenditure this month = Salary of this month - Saving of this month
→ Expenditure this month = 17250 - 1000
→ Expenditure this month = Rs.16,250 . (Ans.)
