No. of hens are 160 and no. of goats are 80

keshavpd03: How

Soni852: Let no. of hens be x and no. of goats be y. So equation for first part is x+y = 240 and for second part is x+2y = 320. By subtracting equations you will get y = 80 . Put this value in equation 1 or 2 and you will get x =160

Let the hens be x .
Let the goats be y.
Sum of total heads of hens and total so,
x+y=240.••• (1)
Hens have two leg so, hens=2x
Goats have 4 legs so, goats =4y
2x+4y=640•••(2)
Solving simultaneously,
Multiply by 2 in eq-(1)
So
2x+2y=480

2x+2y=480
2x+4y=640
-__-___-___
-2y=-160
→2y=160
→y=80
Put y value in eq-(1)
x+y=240
x+80=240
x=240-80
x=160

Total hens=160.
Total goats=80.
