Given :-

Side of square = 40 m

Time taken by farmer to complete one revolution = 40 s

To Find :-

Distance and displacement of farmer at the end of 2 m 20 s.

Solution :-

We know that,

  • t = Time
  • d = Distance
  • p = Perimeter
  • s = Side

Given that,

Farmers takes 40 s to complete one revolution.

Total time = 2 m 20 s

By converting,

1 min = 60 seconds

2 min 20 s = 140 s

After completing one revolution, distance covered by farmer will be equal to the perimeter of square field.

By the formula,

\underline{\boxed{\sf Perimeter \ of \ a \ square= 4 \times Side}}

Given that,

Side (s) = 40 m

After 3.5 revolutions;

Distance = 3.5 × Perimeter

Substituting their values,

Distance = 14 × 40

Distance = 560 m

According to the question,

Displacement = √2 × side

Substituting them,

Displacement = √2 × 20

Displacement = 28.2 m

Therefore, the magnitude of displacement will be 28.2 m.
