Let the total number of toffee be a

Number of toffee each child got = a/6

Number of toffee left for each child after eating 4 = a/6 -4

Total number of toffee left = 6 ( a/6 -4)

= a -24

According to question,

a - 24 = 3 × a / 6

=> a - 24 = a/2

=> a/2 = 24

=> a = 48

Total number of toffee Father initially had = 48
