A father is 30 years older than his son. In 12 years , the man will be 3 times as old as his son. Find their present age.

Let us assume, the father's present age is x years and son's present age is y years.
Given:
x = y + 30  -------------1
Also given after 12 years
x + 12 = 3(y + 12)
x + 12 = 3y + 36
x - 3y = 24 ------------2
Substitute the value of x from equation 1 in equation 2
y + 30 - 3y = 24
2y = 6
y = 3
and x = y + 30 = 3 + 30 = 33 years
The father's present age is 33 years and son's present age is 3 years.
