Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of the father be x years and that of his son be y years .

Case 1.

x = 3y ..........(1)

Case 2 .

After five years ,

Age of the father = (x+5)

Age of his son = (y+5).

→ (x+5)= 2.5(y+5)

→x+5 = 2.5y + 2.5×5

→x+5= 5y/2 + 5×5/2

→2(x+5)= 2(5y/2 +25/2)

→2x +10= 5y + 25

→2x-5y = 25-10

→2x-5y = 15 .....(2)

Thus the situation can be represented by the following equations algebraically :-

x= 3y and 2x-5y = 15, where x and y are respectively the present ages of the father and his son .
