let the present age of son be x

father's present age= 2x

20 yrs ago

age of son = x-20

age of father = 2x-20

ATQ:-

2x-20=12(x-20)

2x-20= 12x-240

200= 10x

x= 20yrs

2x= 40 yrs

so present age of father is 40 yrs
