let boy's age =x
then, the age of father when the boy was born is "x"

if the boy is now 13 years,
then , father age (now) ="x+13"

if father is now 38 years old,
then , x+13=38,
father's age when his son was born=39-13=26

Therefore, son's age five years back= 13-5=8

Let us assume that when son was born, father's age was x years and son's age was 0 years.

Now, according to father:-

Son's age is x years, which means that father has also grown x years.Now he is 2x years old.

Father is now x years older than his son.

Father's present age=38 years.

ATQ:-

38-x=x

38=x+x

38=2x

38/2=x

19=x

So the present age of son is 19 years.

His age five years back was (19-5) years
=14 years.
