A field is in the shape of a regular trapezium, its parallel sides are 40 m and 82 m and the distance between the parallel sides is 28 m. Find the cost of:
(i) ploughing the field at the rate of Rs. 12/m2.
(ii) fencing the field at the rate of Rs. 10/m.

Answer:

i. Cost of ploughing the field  = Rs. 20496

ii.  Cost of fencing the field = Rs. 2230

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of a Trapezium = 1/2 * (sum of  parallel sides)* distance between them

                                  = 1/2* (40 + 82)*28

                                   = 1708 sq. m

i. Cost of ploughing the field = Rs. 12 * 1708 = Rs. 20496

ii. Length of the non- parallel sides = \sqrt{28^2 + 42^2} = 50.5 m

   Perimeter of Field = 40 + 82 + 50.5 + 50.5 = 223 m

 Cost of fencing the field = Rs. 10 * 223 = Rs. 2230

Step-by-step explanation:

The parallel sides of the Trapezium are given as a = 40 m and b = 82 m.

The distance between the parallel sides I.e. the height of the Trapezium h = 28 m

Area of the field (Trapezium) = 1/2(a+b)h

= 1/2(40+82)×28

= 1/2(122) × 28

= 1708 m^2

i) cost of ploughing the field = 12 / m^2

Total cost of ploughing = 1708 × 12

= 20496

ii) Cost of fencing cannot be found by the given information. For that we need to know either the lengths of all the sides or both the bottom angles measures.
