because sometimes the predators attack these eggs and also eat them so to avoid this mishap fishes usually lay eggs in large number so atleast few of them hatch n grow big

Here is ur answer mate :-

Though fishes lay hundreds of eggs and release millions of sperms, all the eggs do not fertilised and develop into new individuals.

  • This is because the eggs and sperms are exposed to water movement, wind and rainfall.

  • Also, there are other animals in the pond which may feed on eggs.

  • Thus, production of large number of eggs and sperms are necessary to ensure fertilisation of atleast a few of them.
