Let volume of fish - tank is V gallons

A fish tank is 1/4th full of water. then volume of water in the tank = V/4 gallons

a/c to question,

6 gallons of water were added. The tank would be 3/4th full.

so, volume of water after adding 6 gallons = (V/4 + 6) gallons = 3/4th volume of the tank

or, (V/4 + 6) = 3/4 × V

or, 3V/4 - V/4 = 6

or, (3 - 1)V/4 = 6

or, 2V/4 = 6

or, V = 12 gallons

hence, capacity of the fish - tank is 12 gallons.
