Step-by-step explanation:

Given A fisherman can knit a big fishing-net in 15 days while his son can do the same job in 12 days. Together they  start knitting a net but after 5 days the fisherman has to  go out to the sea. How long will his son take to finish  knitting the fishing-net?

  • Given In 15 days a fisherman can knit a big fishing net in 15 days.
  • So in one day work done by fisherman will be 1 / 15
  • In 12 days his son will be able to do the same job.
  • So in one day work done by the son will be 1/12
  • So in one day work done by both of them will be
  •         1/15 + 1/12
  •        = 9/60
  •        = 3/20
  • So after 5 days work done by both will be
  •                 5 x 3/20
  •                = 15/20
  •                = ¾
  • So remaining work will be 1 – ¾
  •                                               = ¼
  • So number of days to complete the remaining work by his son will be
  •              ¼ / 1/12
  •         = 12 / 4
  •       = 3 days
