A floor is 8m long and 3m wide. A square carpet of sides 4m is laid on the floor. Find the

area of the floor that is not carpeted?

Length of the floor is 8m

The breadth of the floor is 3m

So, ( applying ar. l×b )

ar. of floor = 8m × 3m = 24m²

side of the carpet = 4m

area of carpet = 4m × 4m = 16 m²

To find the area of the floor that is not carpeted or (uncarpeted) we will (−) minus the ar. of the floor from ar. of carpet

area which is not carpeted or( uncarpeted )

= 24 m² - 16 m²

= 8 m²

so your answer will be 8 m²
