A floor measuring 15m*8m is to be laid with tiles measuring 50cm by 25cm. Find the number of tiles required. Further, if a carpet is laid on a floor so that a space of 1m exists between its edges and the edges of the floor, what fraction of the floor is uncovered

no of tiles required = area of floor/ area of 1 tile
=15*8/0.5*0.25
=960
so the no of tiles required is 960.
if a carpet is laid leaving a gap of 1m then,
length of carpet = 15-1
=14m
breadth of carpet = 8-1
=7m
so, area of carpet = 14*7
= 98sqm
area uncovered = area of floor - area of carpet
= 120 - 98
= 22sqm
