A force of 20 N acting on a mass

m1, produces an acceleration of 4 ms-2
The same force is applied on mass m2,
then the acceleration produced is 0.5
ms-2. What acceleration would the
same force produce, when both masses
are tied together.

Explanation:

M'= F/a = 20/4 = 5kg

m'' = 20/0.5 = 40 kg

m = (m' + m'') = 45kg

a(final) = 20/45 = 4/9 = 0.44 m/s^2
