A force of 300 N, acts downwards on a 30 kg block at 40° to the horizontal as shown in the diagram below. The block accelerates to the right along a rough horizontal surface. a) Calculate the magnitude and direction of the component of the 300 N force that accelerates the block horizontally. b) If the acceleration of the block is 2 ms^−2, calculate the magnitude of the frictional force acting on the block. c) Calculate the vertical force exerted by the block on the plane.
