A force of 40 kg is required to pull a weight of 400 kg on a horizontal plane determine coefficient of friction ?

(i) Force required to pull the weight = 40 kg

(ii) Weight of the body = 400kg

(iii) The plane is horizontal

To find:

(i) Coefficient of friction

Solution:

We know that,

F = μN

where,

F = Force required to pull the object = 40 kgf = 400 N [Taking g = 10 m/s²]

N = Weight of the object

So, 400 = μ * m * g,

where,

m is the mass of the object = 400 kg.

So, 400 = μ * 400 * 10

⇒ μ = 400/4000

⇒ μ = 0.1

So, the coefficient of friction is 0.1
