A force of 65N is needed to start moving an 8kg box across a horizontal surface.

a.) Calculate the co-efficient of Static Friction.

b.) If the box continues to move with an acceleration of 1.4m/s2 what is the coefficient of kinetic friction?

Here's ur answer

We know that,

the applied external force needs to balance the opposing frictional force to make the body to start moving

Hence,

Applied force = Frictional force

Here

Normal reaction from the surface is balanced by the wieght of the body

Hence,

Normal reaction = Weight

Given in the question that,

Applied force = F = 65N

Mass of body = m = 8kg

Normal reaction = N = Weight = mg = 80N

Frictional force = μN

Hence,

Applied force = Frictional force

F = μN

65 = μmg = 80μ

μ = 65/80

μ = 0.8125
