Let the fraction be x/y

So from first condition x-1/y=1/3

3x-3=y

3x-y=3 ——————-(1))

From 2nd condition x/y+8=1/4

4x=y+8

4x-y=8 ———————(2)

substracting (1) from (2)

x=5 :;

Substituting value of x in (2)

4*5-y=8

20-y=8

-y=8-20

-y=-12

y=12

So the fraction is 5/12
