Answer:

The fraction is 3/7

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the fraction be x/y

ATQ,

If 1 subtracted from both numerator and denominator, the fraction become 1/3

(x-1)/(y-1) = 1/3

3 × (x-1) = 1 × (y-1)

3x - 3 = y-1

3x -3 +1 = y

3x -2 = y ------------- equation (1)

AGAIN ATQ,

If 1 added to both numerator and denominator, the fraction become 1/2

(x+1) / (y+1) = 1/2

2 × (x+1) = y+1

2x + 2 = y + 1

2x + 2 - 1 = y

2x +1 = y ------------- equation (2)

Comparing both equation (1) and (2) ,

3x-2 = 2x+1

3x-2x = 1+2

x = 3

Put x = 3 in equation (2),

2x+1=y

2×3 +1 = y

6+1 = y

7 = y

Hence, the fraction is 3/7
