A freely suspended magnet shows north and south at rest why?

this shows that the earth by itself acts like a magnet.now getting to the point the south pole of the earths magnet is the geographic north as this will attract the north pole of the magnet(different poles)and vice versa.if u find the ans informative then please like it below and if u dont find it informative then please tell it tp me in the comments so i can improve and help u better
