A frictionless string is placed on a pulley such that a mass of 6 kg placed at one end & a mass of 10kg placed at other end..find the tension in the string.?

Given:
m₁ = 6 kg, m₂ = 10kg

Formula Used:
Tension =  \frac{2g (m₁) (m₂)}{(m₁+m₂)}
Now put the values,
We get,
Tension =  \frac{2*9.8*6*10}{6+10}

Tension =  \frac{2*9.8*60}{16}

Tension = 73.5 Newton

let g = acceleration due to gravity. Let the string and two masses move with
acceleration a. 10 kg moves down and 6kg moves up.

On the side of 10kg mass,     10 g - T = 10 a.    
On the side of 6 kg mass:         T - 6 g = 6 a

Add the equations to get    16 a = 4 g
a = 2.45 m/sec2.    So T = 6 ( g +a) = 73.5 Newtons.
