Step-by-step explanation:

The progress of frog can be tabulated below :

After 1st hour : 5 m

After 2nd hour : 4m after rest

After 3rd hour = 9m

After 4th hour = 8m after rest

After 5th hour = 13m

After 6th hour = 12m after rest

After 7th hour = 17m

After 8th hour = 16m after rest

After 9th hour = 21m

Bingo!!!!

It will be out after 9 hours !!!!

Alternate method :

Assume the frog will climb the last 5m in the final leg.

=> It has to climb 16m following “climb & slide” pattern.

It will climb 4m in 2 hours.

=> It takes 4 x 2 = 8 hours to climb 16m

Last 5m climb in 1 hour.

=> Total time = 8 + 1 = 9 hours.
