SOLUTION

GIVEN

  • A fruit merchant packs 100 apples in each carton

  • He requires 20 cartons to pack all the apples

  • Later he decides to pack only 80 apples in each carton,

TO DETERMINE

The number of cartons required to pack the same quantity of apples

EVALUATION

Here it is given that, a fruit merchant packs 100 apples in each carton and requires 20 cartons to pack all the apples

So the total number of apples

 =  \sf{100 \times 20}

 =  \sf{2000}

Now it is also stated that the fruit merchant later decides to pack only 80 apples in each carton

Suppose he requires P cartoons to pack the same quantity ( 2000 ) of apples

So by the given condition

  \sf{80 \times P = 2000}

  \implies \displaystyle  \sf{P = \frac{2000}{80} } \:

  \implies \displaystyle  \sf{P =25}

Hence the number of cartons required to pack the same quantity of apples = 25
